The Eco Amino Conference is now over. 80 interested persons participated and helped to find a solution. And a networking group to continue the important job is now taking shape.
Time and place
4 November 2010 from 9 am to 5 pm
at Koldkaergaard Conferencecentre
Agro Food Park 10, DK-8200 Aarhus N

Background
As of 2012, feed for organic livestock must be 100 pct. organic. That means we can no longer balance the organic compound feed for pigs and poultry with conventional maize gluten and potato protein.
Advisers and scientists have for long called attention to the fact that it is no longer possible to compound feed which is balanced with the need for protein and amino acid with the present supply of organic ingredients.
It is needed to initiate a considerable production of organic high-value protein, and it is urgent! Farmers and the foodstuff industry acknowledge the problem but no one seems to do anything about it in practice.
Purpose of the conference
- To describe the problem.
- To indentify the organic protein sources which contribute with essential amino acid.
- To evaluate the possibilities to produce larger amounts of organic high-value feedstuff.
- To motivate organic farmers, the processing industry and the foodstuff industry to start production of organic high-value protein.
- To initiate an action plan regarding production of organic high-value protein on an international / European basis.
Contents of the conference
The conference will cover the following aspects:
- The amino acid impact on animal welfare and productivity.
- Compound feed with and without conventional raw materials.
- Organic maize- and hemp protein to be used as high-value protein for pigs and poultry.
- Identification of other high-value protein sources, e.g. quinoa, sesame, clams, others?
- How much high-value protein is required to cover the need in Scandinavia, Europe and worldwide?
- The actual supply of high-value protein on the market.
- The potential for growing and processing organic high-value protein in Scandinavia, Europe and worldwide.
- What is done in the participating countries to solve the problem?
- Is synthetic amino acid to be permitted?
- Action plan for amino acid supply for pigs and poultry from 1 January 2012.
Conference participants present their proposals.
Everybody with an interest in the subject is invited to the conference. A special effort is put to invite experts and people with influence on the solution of the problem on an international / European basis, as well as representatives for organic organizations, the processing industry, the foodstuff industry, politicians, scientists, and farmers.
Practical information
The conference language is English.
Participation is free and includes lunch, and late morning and afternoon buffets.
